Support Robert Hill's Journey from Howard to USC

Hello,

My name is Robert Hill, and I am a proud native of Kansas City, Missouri, where I graduated from the historic Lincoln College Preparatory Academy near the 18th & Vine District. I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Media, Journalism and Film. During my time at Howard, I was selected for the Annenberg Honors Program, where I developed a master's-level thesis titled, “Rewriting Reality: How AI is Redefining Storytelling, Creativity and Truth”, and presented my research at a Harvard University conference. My commitment to journalism and storytelling also led to me being nominated and selected as a White House Correspondents' Association Scholar, an experience that further strengthened my passion for the field.

Throughout my journey, I am working to build a career centered on leadership, service, and impactful reporting. As a Digital Media Intern with Black Enterprise and a participant in Chevrolet's Discover the Unexpected Fellowship through the National Newspaper Publishers Association, I received the privilege to tell stories that highlight Black culture, innovation, and overlooked communities. Whether serving as a mentor, tutor, journalist, or content creator, I remain committed to using media as a tool to inform and inspire positive change.

I am also proud to have participated in the CNN Academy Bootcamp at the Ted Turner Campus in Atlanta, where I further developed my journalism and storytelling skills. My commitment to impactful reporting also led to my work being featured by NewsOne, a nationally recognized Black-owned news platform dedicated to covering issues affecting Black communities.

Today, I have the chance to journey to the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism's one-year specialized Master's program. USC plans to award me a partial scholarship in recognition of my academic achievements. Through this study, I hope to develop my storytelling, creating films and multimedia experiences that entertain and amplify diverse voices.

Coming from a single-parent household, I learned how to make small things stretch a long way. I turned $10 and $20 into meals and found ways to keep moving forward despite financial challenges. As I prepare to move across the country for this gift, I am turning to my community for support.

While USC's generous scholarship significantly reduces the cost of attendance, there is still a critical, financial gap that I must cover. My mother broke her back connecting me with resources to ensure my success as a BISON. Funds raised through this campaign will help support tuition, housing, relocation, books, technology, and other educational expenses as I begin this next chapter in Los Angeles.

Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings me one step closer to achieving my dream of documenting Black social issues, culture and entertainment through a lens that highlights both truth and humanity. Thank you for believing in my vision and investing in my journey to greatness. I deeply appreciate any amount from anyone who will want to be apart of my village.
