As entitled products of the 21st century- food, water, and shelter are seldom the needs on our mind.  PRATHAM Youth Leaders recently traveled to Aurangabad in order to inspire hope and strengthen education in local villages. While there we analyzed what would best help the children, and came up with the following idea: a vegetable garden.

The vegetable garden, however small would teach the kids new tricks to apply in their agricultural lifestyles. For instance, the kids can learn about organic farming and water irrigation. These two things will not only help the children by expanding their agricultural knowledge, but will also benefit the Indian subcontinent as a whole. The implementation of organic farming will help reduce soil and water contamination which is crucial in a place like India where pollution levels are extremely high.  A fresh vegetable garden will also allow many children in the village to eat, as well as promote the local economy as some food could be sold in the market.

The vegetable garden needs $3,000 for creation and maintenance over the next three years, due to the advanced drip irrigation system that would be implemented.

Being in India the past couple of weeks has opened our eyes and we know that this vegetable garden will change lives. Please help us in raising this money, and do remember- a little can go a long way!
